Time by Elizabeth Wunsch

We are asked to look back. Peel the layers. Find an image. Breathe and invite in our soul. Capture the moments that have inhabited our time. Einstein describes time as “a continuum, without any beginning or end.” Time holds the key to our stories. “Remember the time that…”, “I can remember a time when…”, “Once upon a time…”  Time holds moments and each moment is a piece of our legacy that will continue forward. Hopefully. It is what we have experienced and now we are the expert unto our stories.

All these moments and experiences in time are brought together to create our stories, so many of them, if we choose to search and reveal. Stories that when heard can define a family, bring some sense to relationships, bring clarity to unexplained history, unite a community to action, encourage our growth and bring us together in time.

We find ourselves in each other’s stories. We advance forward in this lifetime due to the generosity of the sharing of experiences. We live vicariously through the tales of old and new. And we lose a part of ourselves when those who are closest to us leave before they can share their stories. A part of us is gone when those of our generation leave this plane too soon and take all the memories of our adventures with them, leaving us to struggle to recall.

Our stories grow from stories past and will meld into the stories of others that follow us. The soul of each story connecting to all the other soulful telling’s surrounding it, define this continuum. It is time. Time to find your stories, tell your moments, discover the stories of your family and share the journeys of your soul. Tell your stories as no one else can. They are your stories. But, they belong to all of us, to hear, to feel and to validate our humanity.

I really enjoyed your thoughts about time. Perhaps our stories also hold the key to time… Stories are timeless… They carry us backward and forward through time… moment meets moment… truth is everlasting.

Your words remind me of the sacred nature of flowing water. No beginning and no end. So symbolic of our journeys.

Elizabeth, your post reads like a beautiful poem. Thank you for encouraging us to share our stories. When you mentioned that we lose a part of ourselves when those close to us depart without having shared their stories, that struck a chord. By sharing our stories, we might inspire, encourage, or permit the people closest to us to tell theirs.
