Rested by Chantel Freed

When one dreams, is the dreaming about finding the story, telling the story, reading the story or living one’s story?  The answer could be none of them, all of them or maybe just one of them depending on how one is resting.  When I finally found a sense of inner peace, my spirit was able to rest, and that opened a floodgate of dreams. Now, as I dream I am actually wide-awake building my story gradually from everyone that touches my life even for a split second.

Every second allows me to creatively add, change or enhance my life while developing who I am as a teller. I love the fact that I have experienced new things with some familiar ones in my life. I recently experienced living in Germany, walking on the cobble stones in Italy, and breathing the air in Ireland, plus other wonderful places that designed some of who I am today. I kept pinching myself as a safety measure to make sure I was extremely wide-awake for my international dream.

The wind from overseas soon carried me to the breathtaking sunsets and the spectacular South Mountains of Phoenix, Arizona. The next few swirls of wind landed me on the South Community College campus and registering for the ‘Art of Story Telling’ course with Professor Torres last year.  I was unaware of anything dealing with storytelling, a storytelling institute or the journey I was about to partake in her course. Boy, I was like a kitten with a ball of yarn, experiencing   the new things introduced to me that semester. I kept pinching myself as a safety measure to make sure I was extremely wide-awake for my campus dream.

You will be glad to know that I stopped pinching myself so know more little bruises. Why did I stop, one may wonder?  Because I became the dream. I know this is my platform to hone in on learning, listening and receiving the gifts offered here surrounding all venues dealing with storytelling.  Oh, where will the breeze take the stories and I as we rest.

    Chantel,
Your post is lovely. It expresses so much of your feeling about storytelling that I can’t wait to hear the stories you will share with us in class.
