Reflecting on Rapunzel by Sandi Brassel

My four granddaughters absolutely love Rapunzel.  They play her video at home and in the car. They have the Ranpunzel doll with her beautiful red hair.  They love for me to make up stories about her and tell them.  Sometimes we get quite creative and she goes to the beach and if someone is drowning she can make her hair grow and can save them.  I am so happy that they, and I, have imaginations that allow us to visualize things like this.

In many of the stories of  Rapunzel, we see her coming in to maturation.  We see life transitions like the beginning of school, puberty, marriage or the birth of a child. I thought I would have a tough time putting the psychology into Rapunzel until I just sat and did some thinking on the subject.  A light went on and, like my granddaughters’ doll, I saw a beautiful girl with beautiful red hair.  In one of the stories for my program she is filled with depression being locked such a small pace.  In another she is inspired by a dream, and the third will be a modern day Ranpunzel filled with life and energy.

Sandi, that’s a fun look at Rapunzel. Your grand daughters are lucky to have such a Sassi Grandmother to regale them with stories, and invent stories for them as well! I enjoyed hearing you tell, and also seeing your blog post. You’re great!
