April 25 – An Important 2 for 1 Italian Holiday! by Kathy Eastman

Easter Monday in Italy is known as La Pasquetta and is recognized as a national holidayThis year Easter Monday is April 25. Examples of festivities include some cities holding dances, free concerts, or unusual games often involving eggs.  My favorite is cheese rolling in the small town of Panicale – followed by tasting and wine.   Cheese and eggs are both symbolic by products from the fertile cycle that spring brings.  Easter Monday is an important time to gather and celebrate friends and family.  April 25 is also celebrated for political reasons as a day of liberation.

I know – it made me feel like making some Easter bread. The feeling pasted – before I actually did anything.

It never really feels like “Easter” until we dye the eggs-hope the grandkids remember the great dye jobs.
