Last Friday night, October 4, was the Greek and Roman Myth
Throw-down in SMCC's Studio Theatre and we had standing room only! True, twenty
six of those in attendance were the tellers, but this is becoming a popular
event. I was up first, and this was my first time using a microphone, which I
find limiting, but people have to hear the story, after all. In the audience
was Sean Buvala, a professional storyteller, and for me the pressure was on!
It fascinates me that within two years I have
gone from listening to Sean tell Rapunzel in a spell-binding and captivating
way to telling Sean about the Greek Goddess Artemis. At one point I saw him
laughing at one of my lines and that was the biggest payday I could have had
that night. Virtually every teller was on their game. There were a few
first-time tellers, but I challenge you to tell me which ones they were!
I know so much more about the Greek gods now. It is fascinating, this craft. You carry everything
you need into the room in your heart and mind. There are no notes, no power
points, I don't even need my reading glasses! I am free to share a few moments
of story with other story lovers.
Thank
you to all my teachers. Thank you for this gift. I am just beginning. I will
get better. But this storytelling thing is so fun I cannot describe it! What a
gift to the world.
