I began my storytelling journey just over a year ago. I have grown tremendously in my telling and understanding of stories. I came into Mythology thinking I was going to learn about Greek and Roman Gods. I did, but that was only a small fraction of what I took away from that class.
It's like Eva Valdez says, "Professor Torres catches us, and Professor Warren reels us in." After that Mythology class ended I was hooked. I wasn’t just hooked on the learning and stories. I was hooked on the storytelling community at SMCC.
Think about it, I get to come to class and learn an awesome skill, and hear great stories from some amazing people. How could I ever have more fun on a weeknight? I look forward to hearing from my fellow story-crafters as well as see them.
I began my journey in hopes that storytelling would help me with my public speaking; it has. It has also helped me to reflect within myself and open myself a bit more easily with others. I am shy, but I see myself coming out of my comfort zone more and more.
I didn't think I would take as many storytelling classes as I have. I also never had the thought of completing the storytelling certificate, but I just might.
