Longevity Noodles by Peggy Babbitt

Are spaghetti noodles an ancient Chinese secret?  Apparently so. When Marco Polo arrived in China he experienced the noodles and took them back to Italy.  In China they are known as longevity noodles. They are eaten at the New Year and the Chinese believe the longer the noodles the longer their lives will be. They are also eaten on birthdays  and paired with hard boiled eggs representing  both longevity and fertility of life.

Longevity noodles are to be slurped and not cut. What appears as bad manners in eating is actually benefical to you. It’s always interesting to read what the Chinese invented and began. That trade route was busy carry ideas and items to the new worlds.

Oh, Peggy, I loved that! I’ll check the websites you listed. It is amazing to see the actual sources for things we assume to be from elsewhere. You’re an engaging storyteller, and I enjoyed your blog post! Can’t wait for tonight!
