Now That Was a Good Story by Cindi Kishiyama-Harbottle

I have finally started feeling like I might be becoming a Good Storyteller.

My mother asked me why I was taking this class and my response to her was to be able to tell a “Good Story!” She responded back that I have always told stories.  She said that I had the same storytelling ability my Dad had and probably learned that from him.  My Dad always had a way with words that would keep you interested in what he was telling you. You could listen to him for hours on end.

I will hopefully be able to become the same kind of Storyteller as my Dad. He and my Mom had both grown up in Japan and were trapped there as Americans in WWII.  The best part of the story is that they met on the first boat coming back after the war ended.  I have listened to the two different renditions of the same story from both of them.  My Dad’s version was so full of comedy, so animated and interesting, it made you want to hear his story over and over again.

My hope is that through this class, our instructor Liz, and my very talented classmates, that I will learn to craft great stories and tell them so well that you will truly want to hear them again and again.  I also hope that when I get to tell you my story for the evening that it will entertain and make you smile. My dream is that you will be saying on the ride home, “Now that was a Good Story!”
