Sleep With Me: Stories That Put You to Sleep by Myranette Robinson

My husband gives me anything that has the word “story” in it.

A few weeks ago, he told me about a pod cast that puts people to sleep. It’s called Sleep with Me.  The host is Drew Ackerman. Mr. Ackerman says he got his start when he and his brother used to tell each other stories to put themselves to sleep.  I can say that after listening to the pod cast, I believe him.  He does know that the quality and tone of the voice can affect your mood.

The voice that Mr. Ackerman uses is a slow, boring voice that instantly makes you think of nothing but sleep or watching paint dry. The episode I listened to had a story entitled Spanish Story. The story starts with some people going to Mexico to discover . . . (Sorry. I don't remember. The goal is to put you to sleep). Half listening to the story, a sure sign that it’s working, I heard Spanish phrases that sounded like a tourist speaking in the infamous Ugly American Accent.   During another moment when I was half awake, he was talking about a pink elephant in the same story.

The last thing I remembered in this story was something about a cat princess who was smoking weed.  I have no idea how it ended, because he started or should I say rambled into another tale called Meta Run Through.

I must say he accomplished his goal. It is now 10:00 a.m. and I want to take a nap.

This is so funny! Perhaps Mr. Ackerman could learn how to tell a story that would make people stay awake? I don’t think I would want to be so boring as to cause people to fall asleep – I would rather listen to soothing music for that!

So funny! It would be interesting to listen to one of the stories and figure out specifically what one should NOT do in storytelling.

Actually, a stoned cat if literate could possibly write some incredible stories… oh wait, I dreamt that after I started listening the podcast… Great discovery Myranette!

Nice technique for insomnia. Sounds like a dream-story with little scenes coming back to you after you wake up.
The cat image is too cute.
